We’re excited to announce that the program and registration website for Global Disinformation in a Post-Moderation World Symposium, co-organized by the Center for Communication & Public Policy and Northwestern University’s Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs, and co-sponsored by the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of America and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, this two-day event brings together leading experts from academia, policy, industry, and civil society to confront one of the most pressing issues of our time: how disinformation spreads and persists in an age when traditional moderation is receding.

🗓️ Event Dates & Format

  • Thursday, January 22, 2026 – Opening plenary at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs (with in-person and online attendance options)
  • Friday, January 23, 2026 – Full-day symposium at the Buffett Institute’s Evanston campus

Registration is open for both in-person and virtual participation across the symposium’s sessions.

This symposium explores how the global information landscape is rapidly changing as large platforms and government institutions scale back active content moderation. In this emerging “post-moderation” era, communities and individuals increasingly bear responsibility for identifying, interpreting, and responding to disinformation.
